Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Bento fans all over the world know about Bento&co. Based in Kyoto, Japan, Bento&co sells only bento boxes and related products, and their ever-evolving catalog features items reflecting the best of Japanese bento box design, from cute to modern-minimalist to traditional. It’s also one of the few online stores catering to the international market that carries real Japanese wood and stainless steel bento boxes. All the products they carry are made in Japan, with the exception of some bento accessories that are designed in Japan and manufactured in China.

And, this is the item they’re giving away. It’s the impossibly cute Kokeshi Bento box! I understand that these have been flying off their shelves, so I’m really glad that we can give away one right here on JustBento. One lucky winner will win their choice of one of the Kokeshi Bento boxes pictured below.

A kokeshi is a traditional Japanese doll made of turned wood. They originated in the northern parts of Honshuu, the main island in Japan, but nowadays you see them sold everywhere in Japan. Japanese people love kokeshi; they’re so iconic that Nintendo took their inspiration for the Mii avatars used in Wii games from the kokeshi form.

The Kokeshi Bento box is made to look like a kokeshi doll, but is made of practical, microwave-safe plastic (remove the inner lids before microwaving). The box has three main parts: two stacking round layers for your regular bento food with leakproof lids, plus a small bowl that can be used for soup, fruit, cereal, and so on. (Note that the bowl is not water-tight; the idea is to bring along a packet of instant soup or your own vegetable soup concentrate, and to add hot water in the bowl with the soup mix when you’re ready to eat.) The bowl inverts on top of the stack to form the head of each kokeshi character, and a bento band is included to hold things together.

The total capacity of the box is 640ml - 200ml for each stacking tier, and 240ml for the bowl. It’s suitable for adults with small appetites.

I like steamed chayote squash (served chilled) and I love gyoza for my bento.

Hi all,

I really love Nikujaga for lunch - in fact it is my absolutely favourite japanese dish ^^ Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to make a bento, but such an adorable box might be a fantastic opportunity to start! Keep up the great work!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

I just wanted to say thanks for keeping up with your blog. I always look forward to reading it, and to making new recipes.
My favorite bento filler right now are the savory pancakes- but last week it was the sticky rice balls- with vegan ham inside. :)

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

My favorite bento food is steamed salmon, white rice, pickled plum, and carrot.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Very cute bentos. I like teriyaki chicken with rice and cold asparagus.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Too cute! My favorite lunch food is a grilled cheese sandwich! Too boring!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

My favorite bento recipe? That's a toughie, especially since I'm a newbie when it comes to bentos. I am personally in love with the mini meatloaves. They're perfectly portioned and can be done with any meatloaf recipe (including my family's!)

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Definitely chicken katsu curry!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

My favorite bento food is anything with chicken. I have a big bag in my freezer filled with individual 4oz portions of chicken breast for my bentos.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

musubi & tsukemono. Or whatever is leftover from dinner.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Tough question! Usually I just bring whatever's left over from dinner the night before, but if I'm preparing food specifically for bento my favorite thing to make is miso-marinated chicken (from your recipe).

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

These are so cute and fun looking. One of my favorites lunch food is making peanut butter & banana sandwiches to fit into the bento lunch box. You can make all kinds of food and bring them for lunch with one of these fun-loving bento boxes.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

those are too cute!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

I'm a sucker for hot dog octopi. I'm sometimes able to make myself get up early to make a bento for lunch just by reminding myself that there's hot dogs in the fridge.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

My favorite bento food would have to be tamagoyaki. c: I made it the other day, it was so good! But I think I messed up horribly when I was rolling them. xD The sweetness wasn't overwhelming but it did give it extra flavor. IT was so tasty
