Back To School Week Giveaway from Bento&co

Bento fans all over the world know about Bento&co. Based in Kyoto, Japan, Bento&co sells only bento boxes and related products, and their ever-evolving catalog features items reflecting the best of Japanese bento box design, from cute to modern-minimalist to traditional. It’s also one of the few online stores catering to the international market that carries real Japanese wood and stainless steel bento boxes. All the products they carry are made in Japan, with the exception of some bento accessories that are designed in Japan and manufactured in China.

And, this is the item they’re giving away. It’s the impossibly cute Kokeshi Bento box! I understand that these have been flying off their shelves, so I’m really glad that we can give away one right here on JustBento. One lucky winner will win their choice of one of the Kokeshi Bento boxes pictured below.

A kokeshi is a traditional Japanese doll made of turned wood. They originated in the northern parts of Honshuu, the main island in Japan, but nowadays you see them sold everywhere in Japan. Japanese people love kokeshi; they’re so iconic that Nintendo took their inspiration for the Mii avatars used in Wii games from the kokeshi form.

The Kokeshi Bento box is made to look like a kokeshi doll, but is made of practical, microwave-safe plastic (remove the inner lids before microwaving). The box has three main parts: two stacking round layers for your regular bento food with leakproof lids, plus a small bowl that can be used for soup, fruit, cereal, and so on. (Note that the bowl is not water-tight; the idea is to bring along a packet of instant soup or your own vegetable soup concentrate, and to add hot water in the bowl with the soup mix when you’re ready to eat.) The bowl inverts on top of the stack to form the head of each kokeshi character, and a bento band is included to hold things together.

The total capacity of the box is 640ml - 200ml for each stacking tier, and 240ml for the bowl. It’s suitable for adults with small appetites.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

My favorite bento food is cold noodles with a little container of dipping sauce I am still looking for the perfect recipe, and add-ins to go with the noodles.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

For myself and the family, it's definitely rice. Onigiri, musubi, plain with vegetables, brown, curried, it doesn't matter. We love rice.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I love fried chicken!I know its not the healthiest but I love any kind of fried chicken but especially those fried with tumeric! I don't know how to make it but my brother's maid does it ever so great and waiting for her to teach me! However, one may follow this link, though I don't know how tasty it'll be but it sure looks like those that I enjoy! http://www.malaysiabest.net/2006/08/03/recipe-deep-fried-tumeric-chicken...

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I almost always crave tomato soup and a cheese sandwich. I know its not the most healthy option, but its so delicious. Its my comfort food.

Bulgogi. I cannot get enough of it. I would make it every day if I could.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I love onigiri with salmon filling, delicious! Tomatoes and tako sausages are also must-haves in bentos.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Onigiri, hands down, absolute favorite.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Eggs! Hardboiled, scrambled or cooked rolled and sliced. Versatile and delicious!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I love tamagoyaki..very simple, tasty but also very nutritious, I always have it in my bento..

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

We don't have them often, but my toddler loves leftover gyoza in her snack bento. Not too long ago, I made your Spanish tortilla recipe to take with us on a flight -- best in-flight meal we've ever had. ;-)

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

It was hard to narrow down the choices. XD Cause I love lots of things in my bento. But I guess my favorite bento item will probably be carrot kinpira. Not only is it tasty, but it's super easy to make too! And the boyfriend creature likes it as well (which is a mighty awesome thing; he is such a picky eater). XD

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I have to pick just one? Either Onigiri or zuchini simmered with ume vinegar.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I love kimbap (korean maki made of vegetables, egg, rice, nori, and some kind of protein, usually fishcakes). Its perfect for lunch and it keep at room temperature without worry. Yum!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

It's a toss up between rice, which is a bit obvious, but it has probably the greatest versatility, and between strawberries. Strawberries are always just so cute and add a lovely pop of color. Great for a dessert or a little sweet snack, and extra awesome since I grow them at home! :)

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I pack for the kids, so we do a lot of sandwiches. But teriyaki is catching up in popularity, and one kid now asks for channa masala and rice more often than he does PB&J. Yes!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

One of my favorites is pasta salad with a few mini muffin meatloaves.
I also love to make myself a salad. I put all the fixin's in separate compartments so there is the thrill of a fresh salad at lunch time.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

My favorite items are plain onigiri & tamagoyaki. Very basic...

Healthy Bento

I like a Natto bento, with some karashi, soy sauce and raw tuna pieces.
It's healthy and tasty.
I still miss the Ekiben I eated in the shinkensen.
Why there is no Bento maker in Montreal.

I like the look of the kokeshi bento boxes.

Cyril

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Heh. I don't really care as long as it is meat!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Hmm...some instant miso soup, lots of fruit, and onigiri. And I have to have some kimchi in there.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I love Ongiri, Fruit sushi that i made from a recipe in a Shojo Beat magazine, and I love to put sticky rice in my bentos, sometimes in the shape of a star or a heart.(i have little rice molds.) It's very Kawaii. >w<

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Honestly, my favorite bento is anything that is left over from the night before. I just take what's left and arrange it pretty. As a teacher, I'm too exhausted to think of doing anything fancy.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

Jasmine rice and lots of fresh fruit!

Side note: I almost bought one of these bentos yesterday and decided to wait. Maybe it's fate... ? ;)

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I really, really love karaage. I know it's not good for me, so I usually just make really small quantities. I love the one here on JustBento. My boyfriend's favorite is tonkatsu though...haha. Fried food really is delicious.

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

I like leftover curry rice for lunch. I add fruit and what not to balance it out.

Mushroom rice, plus kimchi and hot soup for me!

Re: Back To School Week Giveaway from From Bento&co

My favorite lunch food is Curry! But especially Kare-Pan, or curry gyoza, curry onigiri (is that what there called?) or other non-standard forms of delivering curry.
I also really really enjoy pesto. Even together with curry!
