With the growing popularity of Just Bento and the forum, we have some idiots joining here trying to spoil things for everyone. We try to stamp out the spammers as fast as possible, but sometimes we can’t see what they are doing, such as when they spam individual forum members.

If you are spammed in a private message, or see a spammy comment or topic posted, please report the user here. Thanks!

ETA: We already have some automated spam catchers in place, which filter out 99% of spam attempts. Some people are devious though and get through those traps. It’s those that we want you to nail and report. Please include the link to the offending user’s page or any comment or topic they have posted when you report them. Thanks!

You can try the Stopforumspam plugin that will cut down on forum spam a lot. Its a free plugin I used for my forums and it worked great

I've temporarily turned on the 'admin approval required' option for new registrations. We'll see how that goes...

Edit: Sorry, it just takes too much time to do this with the number of people registering. So, we'll just have to stamp out the occasional rogue spammer manually. Sorry for the inconvenience. (In an ideal world I would be able to hire a good site admin, but can't afford one as of now. :( )

Anonymous posting is already disabled. The current problem is people registering for the sole purpose of spamming. If it keeps up I may have to disable registrations all together until I have the time or resources to devote to approving new registrations.

I admin my own forum and what i did to stop spammers is to delete de anon. posting option.
That made a difference. I don't know if you'll be interested in doing that, though :)

Grr. I think that is the same dude who was spamming before.

I've turned back on the 'admin approval required' option, since I really really really need to concentrate on writing this weekend! People will just have to wait to get approved.

It is a bit borderline but I left it for now. The recipe is ok i guess. If he/she just spams his/her web site we'll take the appropriate measures.

Something funny is going on with the system. I have set it so that any new accounts need to be approved by an admin (me) before they can be registered. However, a few new accounts are getting approved right away. I probably have to upgrade the CMS running this site to fix this, but I don't have the block of time to dedicate to this task right now...not even the time to find someone to do this kind of thing for me. So for now I'm just keeping a wary eye on things, and de-emphasizing the registering for new account thing. In the meantime, I really appreciate all of you keeping an eye out on the site and stamping out those spammers! Thank you! (big hugs)

Is there a filter that detects if a poster just submits links? It frustrates me that people stoop to that level..
