Hi!
I just purchased a ricecooker so I can make my onigiri fresh in the morning, instead of making a whole batch and freezing them. Now I'm wondering whether or not I have to wrap them in clingfilm while still hot when I make them fresh or not. Or if I can just put them warm in a box (with just the onigiri, nothing else in it).
Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

I suspect Maki's advice about wrapping onigiri whilst still hot to then nuke in the microwave assumes that you will be reheating the onigiri (the plastic wrap would lock in moisture that would otherwise be lost).
I don't have or use a microwave but I do have a rice cooker. Personally, I just make up onigiri, allow them to cool and only then pack them.
So I would suggest neither option - wrapping them in clingfilm while still hot or just putting them warm in a box - try to have them cool a bit more than 'warm' first.
The main thing is to avoid any kind of condensation in your bento - a major cause of spoilage (water on food can provide an ideal environment for bacteria and molds to grow and multiply).
Thanks Loretta! I just tried my cooker for the first time and I love it!
I made some onigiri to eat today or tomorrow and froze the rest for later... great!
Thanks again for the advice, it's hard sometimes to know how to keep the foods you like in the fridge or freezer the longest possible.
