Hi,

In a few weeks I'm going to Düsseldorf, and I was wondering if anyone has been tehre. In Maki's report (I think) I read that there is not a lot of bento gear to be found, but can anyone tell me what can be found? I'm looking for boxes or sets and maybe some egg-moulds, does anyone know if the shops in DÚsseldorf do carry those items? I'd hate to come back disappointed...

Re: Is there bento gear in Düsseldorf?

When I was there, the selection at Takagi was tiny. A few bento boxes, no egg molds or anything. Of course they could have just been low on stock. They did have a large selection of bento cookbooks though, and are worth a stop if you are there.

(FWIW, even Japan Centre in London, which has just abut all the Japanese foodstuffs you'd want, only had a small selection of bento boxes and gear, so that may be all that can be expected.)

There's also a gift shop on the main Immermanstrasse called Kyoto something (it is right near the Naniwa ramen restaurant). They seemed to have some bento boxes, though more for gifting and for collectors. Again, worth a peek.

The main grocery stores (see my review) have kitchenware/serving ware sections, but I did not see any portable bento boxes. They did have table service bento boxes - the kind you see at Japanese restaurants. But hey, worth a look too.
