Hey everyone,
I'm serving a couple of my friends lunch and am trying to decide what to give them. I've already decided on miso soup and onigiri, but don't know what else to give them. I need something simple, with lots of veggies in it, but something that's still Japanese.
Any ideas?
I'd prefer not to do anything with rice or noodles, because I am already serving onigiri. However, I'd be okay with a noodle dish.
Help please!
Thanks
Kyandasu

Vegetables are EXACTLY what you 'should' be serving with onigiri and miso soup.
The classic accompaniment to onigiri and miso is tsukemono, or Japanese pickles. If you wanted to, you could serve a small selection of them.
Here's Maki's guide to how to make quick and simple tsukemono with some initial recipe suggestions:

I bought the pickling book because of a review she did some time ago and have been delighted with it.
As there are so many recipes for tsukemono, it might be easiest if you told us what kind of vegetables you might like to serve and then we can see if we have a suitable suggestion for you.
Just for interest, here's a cute blog entry of someone who bought a set meal at a restaurant that specialises in Onigiri
http://kumayoga.blog18.fc2.com/blog-entry-43.html
It shows that you get a couple of onigiri, tea, miso soup and a selection of tsukemono/vegetable dishes.
The place is called Onigiri DenDen and is in Shibuya
There are quite a few places that specialise in serving onigiri and soup, including some chains (I'm pretty sure DenDen is a chain).
Onigiri DenDen also have rolled omelet on their menu. This might be an additional option if you want to make the meal more substantial.
