Really excited to be going to Edinburgh for a few days next week; just wondering if anyone knows of any places I can buy bento or bento supplies there, or any good restaurants? These are the kind of priorities I have when travelling to another city or country! I trust forumers judgement when it comes to good places to eat, too. :)

Obento Baby used to live in Scotland, she's now moved to Oz, but I'm sure if you asked her on the blog she might be able to offer advice?

Hopefully you might get another scottish bento-ist to help you out!
Good Luck in your search and let us know if you do find anything!

Sushi in Edinburgh! Noooo - actually I have no idea. There's a great whisky place up on the Royal Mile that does good haggis though. Mind you, there are probably heaps of them and I can't remember the name of the one we went to.

I used to go to Edinburgh fairly regularly, but that was rather a long time ago....
You might be interested in a newly formed company based in Glasgow. They won a competition last year run by Runfrewshire council and the publicity for this contest says that the company were a group of three Japanese entrepreneurs (I found more info in the BBC which says that they'd been made redundant by JVC and wanted to stay in Scotland - I hope they do well).
The website http://www.bentoboxglasgow.com/ is under construction at the moment but you can see a screenshot of previously published web pages here:

I'd strongly suggest giving them a call first though if you're tempted to make the short trip over to Glasgow.
If not, this article

says you can get some food from "Bento Box" in a Delicatessen chain called Peckhams
They have three branches in Edinburgh - addresses here: http://www.peckhams.co.uk/branches.html
Thanks guys! I knew Obento Baby used to live in Scotland, but I'd never been on her lovely blog before, so thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I hope to savour some whisky and haggis, but not proper haggis, just veggie (which I really love!). I like how cosmopolitan the food is in Edinburgh, and a lot of the more tourist/student/middle class places are really veggie friendly.
I think that Bento Box Glasgow is a really great project, and I hope they do well. I will find a Peckhams while I'm in Edinburgh, definitely - looks like really top quality deli fare.
Thanks!
